I graduated from the University
of Illinois in 1983 with a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational

After teaching for two years at the University of Minnesota's
Industrial
Relations Center, I joined the Management faculty at the University of
Colorado. In addition to my faculty position in Management, I am also

for the Integrative Study of Work.

Courses I Teach |
I teach courses in Organizational Behavior and
Human Resource
Management at the undergraduate, MBA, and PhD levels.
|
Scholarly Research |
My research interests include:
|
Business Outreach |
I believe it is critical to develop effective linkages
between the
state of the art in management research and the state of practice in
business.
During 2000-2001 I had a special appointment as Professor in Residence
at IBM Printing Systems Division in Boulder, CO to develop partnerships
between CU and IBM. I am actively involved in field research,
consulting
and public
speaking. I have published books on hiring and on employee
retention
targeted to line managers as well as higher education administrators,
and wrote and edited a monthly column
in the Boulder County Business Report entitled "On Management"
that
explored the human side of running a business.
