Background

Menkes van den Briel is a research associate and instructor (see courses) in the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Menkes received his Master's degree in Econometrics from the University of Maastricht and his Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University (see CV). His main research interests are in combinatorial optimization, mathematical programming, and automated planning and scheduling, but he has also worked in other areas and applications (see projects and publications). His previous work on airplane boarding garnered significant attention and was featured in several national media including: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA TODAY, Wired, and National Public Radio (see press clippings). In his spare time Menkes enjoys hiking and exploring the outdoors (see photo albums).
